About Tuguegarao City
Founded on May 9, 1604, the four-century old Tuguegarao City is the busiest socioeconomic growth center northeast of Manila. Functioning since May 24, 1839 as the Provincial Capital of Cagayan Province, it was designated as the regional center of the Cagayan Valley Region in 1975. Tuguegarao City is the regional center for commerce, education, and government; the region's primary growth center and trading center; and also the regional support service center for tourism, industrial development and agricultural modernization. The population of Tuguegarao City is 120,645.
Agriculture remains a major economic activity for the city's rural barangays. An agriculture modernization program is planned to raise agricultural output and productivity, and to increase local food supply.
Tuguegarao City enjoys basic infrastructure facilities that are essential to economic growth and development. Its facilities for transport, power, water, communications, liquid and solid waste, flood control, and irrigation are indicative of the city's development level and socioeconomic status.
