About Masbate
The town of Masbate was established as a provincial capital shortly before the restoration of Philippine Independence in 1946 and on 16 August 2000 was signed converting Masbate into a component city.
The economy of Masbate City is largely dependent on the trading of livestock and fishery produce of the province. Moreover, the city serves as the intra-provincial distributor of goods entering the Port of Masbate, as well as the service and institutional center of the entire province, and its seaport and airport serve as gateways to the province. The city's major crops include rice, corn, vegetables, root crops, fruits, and coconut. Trading and related activities generate the highest investments through retail and wholesale activities, while manufacturing-related activities are limited to bakery operations, fish processing, and some handicraft and furniture shops.
Accessible via air with flights 5 times weekly; and sea from Manila, Lucena, Cebu, Palompon (Leyte), Pilar, and Bulan (Sorsogon) on daily trips.
