About Dumaguete
Dumaguete became a city on 15 June 1948. It is the center of commerce and trade in Negros Oriental, hosts one of the most prestigious universities in the country (Silliman University), and is the administrative capital of the provincial government.
The city's major products consist of corn, copra, fruits, and vegetables, and it also has a sizeable fishing industry because of its rich coastal and marine resources.
Its major attractions include the sprawling Silliman University Campus, dolphin watching, spelunking (cave exploration activities), and serves as the gateway to Apo Island and Mt. Talinis, where a mountain trekking expedition is available.
